Internet of Things (IOT)

One of the big issues with Internet of Things (IOT) has been the many and varying standards in the implementation of smart devices.

This has caused confusion and frustration with vendors and consumers alike. It has become obvious that no single vendor will dominate the market so the time has come for a common way forward  for the good of the industry.

So it is good to see that at working group of the major players has started.

Matter

In December 18, 2019, Amazon, Apple, Google, and the Zigbee Alliance announced the collaboration and formation of the working group of Project Connected Home over IP now called Matter. The goal of the project is to simplify development for smart home products brands and manufacturers, while increasing the compatibility of the products for consumers.

The standard is designed to be based on Internet Protocol (IP). It is designed to enable smart home devices, mobile apps, and cloud services to communicate and to define a specific set of IP-based networking technologies for device certification.
